Vail Valley music: Beatlemania reborn in Beaver Creek

There is no question that the Beatles are one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Their appeal spans generations, from octogenarians to teenagers and everyone in between.

In the 40 years since their breakup, their music has remained as popular as when they were still together. Each day brings new fans to their music, and it’s easy to imagine their popularity staying strong over the next 40 years.

But for many of these fans, there was simply never an opportunity to see them live. They only toured for a brief time, between 1963 and 1966. Some people lived vicariously through news footage, cherishing clips of the Beatles arriving in America and performing on the Ed Sullivan show. It’s hard to imagine that most of the music we know and love was produced in the studio and never performed in concert.

On Monday, the Vilar Performing Arts Center is pleased to present “Twist & Shout: the Ultimate Beatles Experience.” This tribute concert will provide all of us a chance to experience what it might have been like to see the Fab Four live. There are a lot of Beatles tribute acts out there, but we think Twist & Shout is the best, and we are confident it will satisfy Beatlemanics young and old.

Tony Kishman stars in and produces Twist & Shout. He played Paul McCartney in the national and international tours of the show “Beatlemania,” and has become known as the best McCartney on the road today. In recent years he has toured the world, and leaves his audiences screaming for more.

He is joined by fellow musicians Jim Owen as John, Tom Teeley as George and Carmine Grippo as Ringo— all musicians who have an inherent understanding of why the Beatles are among the most beloved and respected rock band sin history.

There are too many songs to be included in one show but the group performs many of your favorite hit. Costumes and film clips recreate the different styles and periods of the band.

This is closest most of us will ever get to seeing them live, so I hope you will come share in the experience.

Tonight, the famed Second City improv comedy troupe celebrates 50 years by presenting some of the best sketches in the history of the company along with their famous improvisation and audience interactions.

And on Saturday, I Musici de Montreal will present a beautiful evening of Russian music. As part of the performance, they will perform Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” to an animated film that recreates the pictures that inspired the composition.
